Our Hiring Process

Onigiri Hurray

1. Application questions and CV Review

Our Group Product Managers review the candidates' CVs. We're experimenting with moving this review after the application questionnaire so we're not optimizing for shiny CVs. The Product Managers at Product People review your answers to the questionnaire. If the process outline you received looks a little different, don't fret.

2. Cultural

3. Prepare a Product Challenge

Our Recruiting Operations Coordinator anonymizes our Challenge (e.g. candidates' submissions can be termed as a number (1032) or their initials (NHK). Three Product Managers separately review the challenge and independently rank the candidate's seniority.

4. Present your case to the Product People Team

Three Product Managers at Product People join this call. Usually, they're different people from those who initially reviewed the case study async. They independently rank the candidate's seniority and vote on whether to proceed to the next step.

5. Join us for Feedback on your deliverables

Should we not move forward after case submission, we're still happy to have a feedback call to give you a few tips on what we missed and how to improve your technique for next time. You will receive an automatic link through Calendly to schedule a feedback call after your presentation is done.

6. Send two relevant references

Our decision is based on all the information that we gather, including the reference call. If we move forward with an offer, we finalize the level that the candidate fits at with us. You could speed up the process by having your referees schedule a call with us as soon as possible.

What We Expect From You

Every team member of Product People lives and breathes the following characteristics, regardless of role or level.

Extreme Ownership to Help Product People Thrive

Propose and take ownership of initiatives that make us stronger as a team.
Help us deliver excellent outcomes for our clients faster, and optimize for long-term profitability and growth.

Solution-Oriented, Win-Win Mindset

Comprehensive understanding of the state of the art web and mobile technologies including working with high-traffic iOS and Android apps.
We have Technical Product Management experience and also worked with highly regulated products (Medtech, FinTech).

Hands-On, Happy to do the Unglamorous Work of a PM

Fix the mess. Just like Marie Kondo, we are not called up when things are going well. It doesn't come naturally for anyone to bring in externals unless they are in great pain. Take setbacks as learning opportunities and recognize the unglamorous work as an important part of the job.

Cognitive Flexibility and Resilience

Learn fast and adapt to environmental changes in the PM role. Even with preparation, the job remains unpredictable due to daily surprises and major product-influencing changes. Unexpected test results, team member absence, or new market disruptors require fast adaptation.

Strong Opinions, Loosely Held” - Marc Andreessen (A16Z)

Stay receptive to new knowledge and different viewpoints. Actively collect and integrate feedback for personal growth and product development, including addressing blind spots. Proactively seek feedback to improve, and handle negative feedback with grace and an open mind.

Excellent
Communication

Communicate proactively, openly, and collaboratively with reliability and trustworthiness. Interact with the team, peers, stakeholders, and users in writing or verbally. Communicate effectively by organizing and expressing thoughts clearly, being brief but informative, and reporting problems and successes.
