Pliant is a company that offers companies self-managed credit cards for their employees. It was founded in 2020 in Berlin by Malte Rau (CEO) and Fabian Terner (CPO). Pliant also simplifies bookkeeping and receipt management via its app while providing cashback incentives. Pliant Earth automatically allows all its customers to offset travel-related CO2 emissions through certified providers.
We joined in the early days before the first Product Management hires to set up the process and relieve the Co-Founder and CPO of the day-to-day operational work so they could focus on strategy and growing the company.
In less than three months, we’ve touched on aspects of User Access and Permissions, User Onboarding, In-App Notifications, and API Integrations of strategic 3rd party vendors. We supported in setting the base for good processes and great user-centric documentation. We helped to successfully onboard the new full-time PM and offboarded when they were up and running independently.
Because of the short nature of the mission, it was crucial to deliver value as quickly as possible while minimizing the bandwidth the Co-Founder and CPO had to reserve for us. Fortunately, the 1st principle of Product People is “low maintenance, high results,” so we’re used to doing this.
Within the first few days of being onboarded onto the topics that were the easiest to digest for outsiders without too much domain knowledge (sign-up flow, B2B user permissions). We’ve then delivered the first B2B user flow (customer journey), epics, and user stories for the upcoming refinement sessions with the development team.
Our speed gained the client's trust, and we’ve then started helping with further initiatives such as In-App Notifications for B2B users, and the Receipt compliance process (upload, reminders to admins and to users). The last part we orchestrated was API Integrations of strategic 3rd party vendors, including managing the 3rd party stakeholders.
We then sat down and prepared the onboarding documentation for the new PM, invited them to shadow us for the first week, and then started fading in the background from the second week to have them fully onboarded.
